Prairie Garden Quilt

"We might think we are nurturing our garden,

But of course, it is our garden that is really nurturing us." - Jenny Uglow

I wanted to design a quilt pattern that was a simple sew (all straight pieced sewing) but that has so much visual beauty through accent fabric and rotating blocks. This Prairie Garden Quilt Pattern was designed with the thought and beauty of the wild open prairies of wild flowers! It is Fat Quarter Friendly and a wonderful way to showcase both larger scale and smaller scale prints in a collection!

Fun Fact: The "Bee" in Bee Sew Inspired - is a nod to my passion of gardening. We have a large prairie, homestead garden that I had the opportunity to start from scratch when we first moved to this yard site. Above are my grapevines that are loaded with grapes hiding beneath the vines. (There are also a few raspberry canes sneaking in here too! I planted over 200 feet of raspberries in 3 varieties, but I guess they don't feel that is enough. They always try to sneak in my other rows! lol).

Here are a few pumpkins in the pumpkin patch...

...and some of the turning sunflowers.

The garden is definitely on it's last days of harvest, but I am so thankful for all that this rich and beautiful soil has provided for my family. The freezers and canning jars are packed and ready for winter!

Now, let's talk about fabric selection! From the moment I spotted this Whimsical Romance Collection by Keera Job for Riley Blake Designs, I knew it would be PERFECT for the Prairie Garden Quilt Pattern.

The large and small scale prints in this collection lend themselves so well to be featured here! I used the coordinating RBD Confetti Cottons and beautiful Shades Basic for the binding. Riley Blake does a beautiful job in their Storyboards to feature the coordinating RBD basics. It is so helpful when planning a quilt or sewing project. You can check out the Whimsical Romance Storyboard HERE.

Can I tell you what I absolutely LOVE about this quilt pattern? I am a fabric-lover and this pattern does such a great job of making the fabrics the star of the show! With the large focal blocks and the small cornerstones, the Prairie Garden Quilt Pattern really give the fabric an opportunity to shine - all while providing enough interest to keep your eyes focusing on the pattern! Also, because the pattern is all straight sewing, it is such relaxing and accurate pattern. Making it quick and Beginner Friendly! YAY!

I know already that I NEED to make another Prairie Garden Quilt - perhaps a Winter or Christmas version... Hmmm.. What Fat Quarter Bundle can I use for that version?

Would you like to sew this pattern up with me? Let's do it! I am currently organizing a Quilt-along in November for the Prairie Garden Quilt! Make sure you have signed up for the Bee Sew Inspired Newsletter and I will let you know how to sign up and get all the Prairie Garden QAL details and inspiration!
