RBD Block Challenge - Block 2

Welcome back to week 2 of the Riley Blake Designs Block Challenge. Are you joining in the fun?

This week's block is designed by my dear friend, Beverly McCullough of Flamingo Toes. If you don't already follow her, you definitely should! She is an amazing designer and such a beautiful person inside and out.

What is the RBD Block Challenge?

It is a weekly free mystery block pattern hosted by Riley Blake Designs. There are (16) new and unique 10" quilt blocks designed by 16 Riley Blake Design designers (including myself)! It is fun and free and the final quilt is a surprise!!!

Every Tuesday, a NEW block pattern is released, except the last Tuesday of the month when we take a moment to catch up, get inspired and really enjoy all the awesome work happening on the Block Challenge around the globe!

Block 2: Sweetheart by Beverly McCullough

Block 2 of the #RBDBlockChallenge is designed by Bev McCullough of Flamingo Toes and is called Sweetheart.

You can download the FREE block pattern HERE.

I made mine using a combination of a new RBD fabric line called Misty Morning by Minki Kim and some coordinating RBD Basics (see my fabric list at the bottom of this post).

I have decided again to add some hand stitching to my blocks and did some outline hand stitching in my background fabrics. It is subtle but impactful and gives a dimensional character to each block. I hand sew these embellishment stitches BEFORE I assembled the blocks into the final quilt and before I quilt it. I just love the hand look it gives the blocks!

Quilting together is all about community, friendship and creativity. I hope you can join us and share your progress. Please use the hashtag #RBDblockchallenge.
